Ministry Heart and Vision
Rolando Cedillo serves as the Trail Life USA Troopmaster for TX-0242 at Calvary Chapel of the Springs. He has attended Calvary Chapel of the Springs for about 8 years across two different periods of his life. He officially started serving in this leadership role around March 2025.
The Trail Life Ministry is focused on engaging boys, strengthening families, and discipling the next generation to become Godly men, husbands and fathers.
As Troopmaster for the local troop, Rolando is responsible for leading and guiding the troop leaders, adults, and parents who are in direct contact with teaching the boys. He also ensures that the Trail Life program is implemented according to program guidelines and in alignment with Calvary Chapel's ministry goals.
His heart for the ministry is centered on the vision to be intentional in raising up the next generation of Godly husbands, fathers, & disciples.
Two specific scriptures guide the mission of the Trail Life Troop:
The troop number, TX-0242, is based on Acts 2:42 (“They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread and to prayer”). This verse reflects the heart behind the ministry.
The troop's motto, “Walk Worthy,” is based on Colossians 1:10 NKJV (“That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;”).
Background and Experience
Rolando became a born-again believer in Jesus Christ around his sophomore year of high school. His journey to faith began during a world history class discussion about the great crusades when a teacher asked about the students' religious backgrounds. When he went home and asked his father about what religion they were, this question led his parents to start taking them to a local church. It was there that he found out what it meant to be born again, and learned what the death and resurrection of Jesus on the cross meant for him personally.
Although he would later walk away from the faith and was scared to bring up “church” due to the shame and guilt of walking away, he ultimately returned to the faith. His faith was reignited at a homeschool convention, which he thought he was attending solely to learn about curriculum and educational methods.
Rolando felt the Lord calling and preparing him for this ministry since Summer 2023, knowing it would involve engaging men and discipling the next generation, though he did not initially know it would be Trail Life. After attending a Homeschool Convention in the summer of 2024, he learned about several different ministries, with Trail Life being one of them. Although a troop was not near his home at the time, he kept feeling the calling to be intentional in leading his family, specifically his three boys, to draw closer to God.
He looked up troops and found a new one in New Braunfels, TX, which they joined. What they thought would be outdoor adventure and "toughening up" his boys turned out to be "Iron-sharpening-Iron" and an unforgettable brotherhood across Texas and the nation. This experience led him to present Trail Life to the church leaders, resulting in the birth of Trail Life Troop TX-0242. He notes that the leaders, families, and boys who attend the troop have taught him much about God’s unconditional love.
Rolando has a background that includes some college in multiple fields, including networking, computer programming, and digital film and production.
He holds several relevant certifications, including:
NRA Chief Range Safety officer (shooting sports)
NASP certified archery instructor
American Red Cross certified in First Aid, AED, and CPR
His previous experiences that influenced his current roles include working with youth, youth worship, sound and media teams, and college ministry. Through professional work, he gained skills in leadership, communication, technical skills, software, web development, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis.
